The Coors Belfast Giants go into their home game against Newcastle as hot favourites, in 9 previous Elite League games on the Giants ice, they have 8 wins and lost only the once. The Giants also recorded a win against the Tyneside team back in 2005 in the Cross Over Cup game.
Newcastle lost both games last weekend, but picked up a single point in the shootout loss to Manchester on Sunday. Goaltender Andrew Verner looked good in both games and with an impressive reputation as one of the top netminders in Europe over the last few years, Verner could be the pick up of the summer for coach Rob Wilson.
Keep an eye on the player that Giants fans love to hate, Andre Payette who enjoys getting under the skin of the Belfast supporters nearly as much as he enjoys irritating the Belfast players. Other notable names in the Vipers line up are Tough guy Tyler Willis and former NHL defenceman Chris McAllister, who is back in Newcastle after a brief stint with the Vipers in 2005, the year of the NHL lock-out.

On Sunday Hull play hosts to the Giants as the two meet on league business. The Giants have won 6 of the previous 7 encounters on the Hull ice including a Cross Over Cup game four seasons ago. But, the one win that Hull have recorded on home ice against the Giants is their biggest winning margin that they have recorded in the Elite league when the beat Belfast 7-2 two seasons ago. Hull will be stinging after a massive suspension to newcomer Rick Kozak who picked up a 10 game suspension for his antics on Saturday against the Nottingham Panthers. Losing Kozak is a big blow for the Stingrays, he is a tough guy who also was leading their team in scoring after the first weekend of action.
