Murphy Nominated For British Player Of The Year

The three-man shortlist for the Elite League’s British Player of the Year for 2010/11 has been revealed following nominations from the coaches of all 10 clubs. Stephen Murphy of the Belfast Giants has led his side into contention for the Elite League title going into the final week of the regular season. He currently has two shut-outs to his name this season and a save percentage of 90.6%, with a 2.52 goals against average. Murphy won this award a year ago and is also nominated in the Netminder of the Year category this season.

Nottingham Panthers forward David Clarke has already had a career-high points return and once again has scored at over a point-per-game. The GB international is the Elite League’s third-highest goalscorer this season with 45 goals (as of 16th March 2011).

Following a season in Italy, Ashley Tait has been one of the main reasons behind Sheffield Steelers’ push for the Elite League title. Tait has scored at well over a point-per-game and he has 24 goals to his name (as of 16th March 2011).

The award winners will be revealed at the annual Elite League dinner on Friday 1st April at the Nottingham Belfry Hotel.
