The Aer Lingus Belfast Giants are pleased to announce the signing of Robert Dowd for the 2011/12 season. 22 year old Dowd joins the Giants after 3 seasons with the Sheffield Steelers where he won 2 playoff medals and 2 league championships. In the season just finished, he scored 27 goals, and totalled 61 points, finishing fourth in the league for British scoring.
Doug Christiansen is excited at the prospect of Dowd playing for the Giants. “My goal this week was to add to our British contingent and Dowd was an integral part of that planning. Robert is a key signing for us. He strengthens our core of British players and will bring a strong offensive game to our team next season.”
Having Robert Dowd along with Craig Peacock and Mark Garside, we now have a trio of very talented young British players who will be the foundation from which we build. Each of them has an excitement and passion about leaving their mark on the British game. I am looking forward to working with all of them.”
Dowd, speaking from the GB training camp in Coventry today is delighted to have the deal done. “I am really excited to join the Giants. I’ve had 3 great years in Sheffield but am ready for a new challenge. Belfast is hungry for more championships and I’m looking forward to being part of a winning team there next season!”
