The Stena Line Belfast Giants bounced back from Saturday night’s shootout loss to record a regulation victory, securing 3 points from a possible 4 in this weekends double header with the Cardiff Devils.
A scoreless first period seen quality chances for both teams but the main talking point came at the 18minute mark as Brad Plumpton and Adam Keefe dropped the gloves with the Giants Captain unloading some aggression in his first game back from suspension.
The Giants were first to mark the score sheet as Jeffrey Szwez, also returning from suspension, slotted the puck past Lacosta on a feed from Colin Shields to make it 1-0 at 4:51 of the second period. The Giants went into the second intermission with a slender lead but Cardiff pulled back level just after the break via power play strike from Max Birbraer.
With the outcome of the game hanging in the balance Szwez turned provider for Shields who netted the Giants second which would turn out to be the game winning goal.
A late burst from Cardiff tested the Giants defence but Stephen Murphy was equal to anything the visitors threw at him and at the final buzzer it was Paul Adey’s men skating off with 2 points.
