The news that every Stena Line Belfast Giants fan wants to hear…
Adam Keefe has signed for another 2 years to lead the charge into the 2014/15 season and throughout the 2015/16 season. For a third straight season Keefe will Captain the Giants who will attempt to defend the Elite League crown. The native of Brampton, Ontario, Canada will enter his fourth season as a Giant when he hits the ice in September 2014. In three seasons, Keefe has won 2 Elite League titles and has quickly grown into one of the most popular Giants in franchise history.
General Manager Todd Kelman spoke about the signing of Adam Keefe.
“Adam Keefe is a huge part of this team and this organisation. As long as I can have him wearing the ‘C’ for this team I will. He is all heart, and brings intensity, commitment and dedication every day to the rink.”
“Keefer is one of those guys that you know plays to win every night. He is here because he wants to win titles and he enjoys the huge part he plays in the success of the Giants.”
“He is just a genuinely great person and a great player. On the ice, he is our best penalty killer, he hits, scores, fights when he needs to. He is just a real old school pro. This past weekend he could barely walk and we had to keep him off the ice on Sunday after he played on one leg on Saturday to help us win our playoff semi final. He shouldn’t have played, but he did because that is who he is.”
“As important as he is on the ice, he doubles in value off the ice. He does a lot of extra things for the community, whether it is visiting schools or youth groups or a number of other initiatives he gets himself involved in. He usually comes to me a few times a year when he hears about a charity or more specifically a young kid that needs help and he wants to do something for them.”
Keefe finished the 2013/14 season with 12 goals and 10 assists, good for 22 points in 52 games played. The Giants Captain also racked up 158 penalty minutes, eighth overall in the Elite League. He was selected by the Giants Season Ticket Holders as the ‘Fans Favourite’ in each of the last three seasons and, this past season, Keefe was chosen as the Community Service award winner by his teammates for his off-ice commitment to many local causes.
“Every single team in the league would love to have a player like Adam Keefe. I am very pleased to have him back for at least the next two seasons. My intention, and I think Adam’s as well, would be for him to finish his playing career as a Giant. This 2 year deal is hopefully not the last time we announce signing Adam Keefe.”
