The Stena Line Belfast Giants are pleased to announce the signing of Johan Ejdepalm to the 2015/16 roster. The Swedish defenceman completes the Giants defensive unit and will arrive in Belfast ahead of the pre-season games in Scotland before making his home debut at the home opener on Saturday 12th September against the Manchester Storm at The SSE Arena, Belfast.
Ejdepalm, 33, becomes the Giants sixth d-corps signing of the off-season, joining Jeff Mason, Matt Nickerson, Mike Wilson, Mitch Ganzak and new Head Coach Derrick Walser. The 6’0” defenceman, with a left shot, brings plenty of experience to the Giants 2015/16 lineup, having featured in over 150 games in both the Swedish Elite League and in Germany’s DEL.
Ejdepalm played international hockey at junior level for Sweden between 2000-2002 and then featured for Hammarby of the Allsvenskan before making the jump up to the Swedish Elite League in 2007/08 season with Lulea – where, across three seasons, he posted 16 points and 124 penalty minutes in 164 games.
2010 saw Johan make the move to Germany with EHC München, totalling 39 points in 149 games before the Hamburg Freezers’ brought in the well revered defenceman for the 2013/14 season – helping the DEL side to the end-of-season playoffs. Ejdepalm, who will wear the #8 jersey, arrives in Belfast from a season with Székesfehérvár of the Austrian Hockey League where he posted 21 points in 54 games played.
Steve Thornton, Head of Hockey Operations, on Johan Ejdepalm’s signing:
“We really wanted a mobile d-man that skates well and excels defensively. Johan has been consistently matched against teams top lines in the DEL and Swedish Elite league which are some of the best leagues in the world. His character and work ethic are top notch and we feel that he will bring defensive stability to our d-corps.”
