Kaitlyn Morrison Awarded Scholarship In Canada

The Stena Line Belfast Giants fans are familiar with the name ‘Morrison’. Mark Morrison, from Belfast, iced for the Giants 2003-2012 and lead Team Ireland into five World Championships.

During his Giants career, Mark pulled on the teal jersey 371 times and posted 30 goals and 31 assists and remains a legend with the Giants fanbase still to this day.

Following on in Mark’s footsteps is his daughter Kaitlyn who, this week, is on her way to Canada to play hockey after being awarded a scholarship with Ontario Hockey Academy.

Kaitlyn had a busy season last year, she was team captain of the Junior Giants U14 team and also had the honour of representing Team GB when she made her debut with GB’s U16s girls team.

In June the Junior Giants had an U16 girls team travel to Swindon to play in a tournament with Kaitlyn being awarded Player of the Tournament. Kaitlyn was also selected to represent Scotland U15s and it was from here she was spotted by Ontario Hockey Academy after they watched her play at the national conference.

In June Kaitlyn’s parents, Mark and Kate, were contacted by the academy who expressed interest and, after sending them more video clips of her playing and school reports, a scholarship was offered.

A GIANT good luck to Kaitlyn for the year ahead!

Mark Morrison on his daughters’ achievements:

“It has all been a bit of a whirlwind the last couple of months. I am extremely proud that Kaitlyn has earned this opportunity and have no doubt that she will make the most of it and I would like to thank everyone at TPF for getting Kaitlyn ready for the season with off ice training and Stewy (Rob Stewart) for the hockey schools he put on that Kaitlyn attended.”

“The support she has received locally has been unreal. Good luck Kaitlyn!”
