Stena Line Belfast Giants forward Sebastien Sylvestre has been named the Elite League’s Player of the Week for period ending 14th January 2018.
The 24-year-old helped the Giants to two big victories against Nottingham Panthers over the weekend as they kept up their pursuit of league leaders Cardiff Devils.
Sylvestre chipped in with five points, scoring four and assisting in one other and scored the massive game winning goal with 22 seconds to go to confirm victory on Saturday.
The result got the Giants to within five points of the Devils as the Giants extended their recent good run of form to four straight wins and six victories in their last seven.
Sylvestre spoke of his delight and gave insight into the goal that lifted the roof off the SSE Arena on Saturday night as they finally overcame the Panthers.
“I’m delighted to be given this, but I’m much happier with the four-point weekend we got against a really good team,” Sylvestre said.
“For the winner on Saturday, I’ve been playing with (Brendan) Connolly and he’s good when he does his thing and he has great vision.”
“Plus I have to mention Sheds’ (Colin Shields) pass with his skate that nobody sees. It was a great play by my two team-mates and I was fortunate to be the guy in front of the net.”
“We’ve been on a roll and it’s all about winning those games. We’ve got a big weekend of three games in three days coming up and if we play we are, the chances of all the points are on our side.”
Sylvestre also moved to the top of the scoring charts in all competitions after his five-point haul, moving one ahead of Guildford Flames’ John Dunbar.
Head Coach Adam Keefe also lavished praise on his top scorer and says his success this season has not been unexpected.
He added: “Sly loves to score goals, he’s a fierce competitor that wants to win in everything he does, I’m not surprised at his success this season and most recently over the weekend.”
