The Stena Line Belfast Giants will compete with ten other Elite League sides for the 2018/19 league title. The structure for the Challenge Cup, which the Giants will defend in the new season, will be confirmed following the EIHL fixtures meeting in late June.
The Elite Ice-Hockey League (EIHL) confirmed the 2018/19 regular season structure at Tuesday’s Board Meeting with all eleven sides facing each other six times during the regular season – three times at home and three times away.
The 2018/19 structure replaces the former league model that saw clubs play teams in their own conference more frequently than those in the two other conferences.
The three Conferences, Erhardt, Gardiner & Patton, will still remain in place with all league games against conference opponents counting towards the Conference Championship.
The Gardiner Conference will now only have three teams instead of four, following Edinburgh’s departure, though all eleven Elite League sides will play 30 home games compared to 28 last season.
