Keefe: “Lets Make Home Ice Count In Final”

Stena Line Belfast Giants Head Coach Adam Keefe has called on the Teal Army to make the home ice advantage count when The SSE Arena plays host to the IIHF Continental Cup Final in January.

On Wednesday the IIHF announced the famous European hockey final would take place in Belfast Friday 11th – Sunday 13th January and Keefe is excited that the Giants will be competing for a European trophy on home ice.

“The Semi-Final round at home was something special. The Giants fans are well-known for their passion during European games, especially during my time here, and they made a huge difference to the team when we won the group only a few weeks ago.”

The Giants finished top of their four team Semi-Final group in November – clinching first after wins over the Croatian and Italian champions. GKS Katowice of Poland edged out the Belfast side 4-2 on the final game to finish in second place and also advance to the mouth watering Final where they join the Giants, Arlan Kokshetau of Kazakstan and Belarus’ HK Gomel.

“Although our fans may have been expecting a European away trip – I am excited that this team will play for a trophy in front of our home fans right here in Northern Ireland. These games will be a spectacle to watch and the team will need that special European atmosphere yet again when the puck drops at Final in the new year.”

“Before then, we have a lot of work to do in the Elite League and Challenge Cup – though the 11th, 12th and 13th January are circled in my calendar for sure. Let’s make the home ice count in the Final.”
