Colin Shields Hits A Giant Milestone

Saturday night will be a milestone moment in the history of the organisation as Colin Shields surpasses Graeme Walton’s record total of 584 games played for the Stena Line Belfast Giants. Shields currently leads the Giants with 242 goals & 385 assists, good for 627 points and an average of over one point per game.

On Saturday, the Giants will be hosting a pre-game presentation to Shields right before face-off – and so fans are encouraged to be in their seats well in advance of the puck drop at 7pm. Face-Offs this weekend are 7pm Saturday, 4pm Sunday and tickets are on sale NOW from the SSE Arena Box Office, in person or by calling 028 9073 9074, or via the Ticketmaster website.

Shields, 38, is currently in his eleventh season with the Giants after joining back in 2005/06. The Team GB star forward, who hails from Glasgow, was selected 195th overall in the 2000 NHL draft by the Philadelphia Flyers.

Shields won his first Elite League title with the Giants in 2005/06, before going on to win the Challenge Cup and Knockout Cup in 2009, the 2010 Playoff championship before lifting the league trophy again in 2013/14 and the Challenge Cup once more in 2017/18.

Saturday’s game sees Colin Shields return following a long absence through injury sustained in the game vs MK Lightning on Friday 5th October. Shields passes Belfast’s own Graeme Walton, another Team GB international who helped the organisation to four championships and the first Giant to reach the milestone of 500 games played. Graeme’s #18 was retired following his last game for the organisation in 2013.
