Belfast Harbour Return as Giants' Official Community Outreach Partner for 2024/25
The Stena Line Belfast Giants are pleased to announce the renewal of their partnership with Belfast Harbour, reaffirming their commitment to promoting health and wellbeing among children and young people through the Healthy Lifestyle Programme.
Established in 2005, the initiative, which has grown significantly in recent years, is designed to encourage children and young people to make conscious decisions around their lifestyle choices. Coordinated by the Giants’ Relationship and Business Development Manager Laura Small and facilitated by Giants’ Defenceman Josh Roach, the programme promotes the importance of looking after both physical and mental wellbeing, focusing on sufficient sleep, managing stress, maintaining a balanced diet, and exercising regularly.
Laura Small, Relationship and Business Development Manager for the Belfast Giants, said: “The Belfast Giants have always been more than just an ice hockey team. We are a community-driven organisation dedicated to making a positive impact on people in our local communities. Thanks to Belfast Harbour’s ongoing support, we can expand this programme and reach even more young people with vital lessons about healthy living.”
Building on the success of previous seasons, the renewed partnership will allow the Giants and Belfast Harbour to reach more primary schools across Greater Belfast. Thousands of students have already benefitted from the programme, which makes health and fitness education engaging and accessible for young people at a crucial stage in their development.
Jenni Barkley, Community Engagement Manager at Belfast Harbour, commented: “Belfast Harbour is a community-focused port, which is committed to supporting initiatives that benefit local people, so we are really pleased to renew our community outreach partnership with the Belfast Giants. The expansion of the Healthy Lifestyle Programme to include more primary schools will allow us to reach more pupils across Belfast and encourage them to live healthier lives, both physically and mentally.”
There’s still time for schools to register for the Healthy Lifestyle Programme, which is open to all primary schools in the Greater Belfast area. For more information or to sign up, please contact schools@belfastgiants.com.
