2. WE'RE KIND OF A BIG DEAL
The Friendship Four is currently the only college ice hockey tournament to take place outside of the United States, and we’re proud to see it return to the land of the Giants for the sixth time. Be a part of ice hockey history right here in Belfast!
3. CHOOSE YOUR COLOURS
There’s an exciting mix of new and returning teams coming to The SSE Arena, Belfast in 2022. The inaugural winners of the Belpot Trophy the UMass Lowell River Hawks, will be joined by Quinnipiac and UMass, who both made their Friendship Four debuts in 2016, as well as tournament newcomers Dartmouth.
4. WE'VE GOT HISTORY
Did you know that several Giants have taken to the ice in the Friendship Four? Current players Jeff Baum, Scott Conway and Matt Foley, and former Giant Liam Morgan, all plied their trade at the Friendship Four before making the move to Belfast. Who knows, you could be watching the next generation of Giants!
5. SCOUT FUTURE GIANTS
Since the first Friendship Four tournament in 2015, a total of 34 players have gone on to represent teams in the NHL, with a staggering 2,467 games (and counting) being played between them. If that wasn’t enough, two Belpot Trophy alumni – Nico Sturm and Ross Colton, have lifted the prestigious Stanley Cup, with the latter scoring the series-winning goal in 2021! Be sure to tell us who your MVP is, and we’ll let Keefer know!
