Giants Bring Curti to Belfast
The Stena Line Belfast Giants are pleased to confirm the signing of 28-year-old Charlie Curti for the 2023/24 season.
The Minnesota-born defenceman began his career with Mound-Westonka High and Cedar Rapids Roughriders, before four back-to-back NCAA seasons with Yale University Bulldogs between 2015 and 2019 - icing over 100 times in the process. Curti took the next step in his career, going on to represent Adirondack Thunder and Rapid City Rush in the ECHL, before making the move to Europe in the 2021/22 season, appearing 35 times for Danish side, Aalborg Pirates.
Steve Thornton, head of hockey at the Belfast Giants, said: “We’re delighted that Charlie has agreed to join us for the upcoming season, as we have been chasing him for a few years now. Charlie is another Friendship Four grad that we have been tracking and he will be an important piece of our puzzle. I don’t doubt that Charlie will fit in well here, and we look forward to welcoming him to Belfast over the coming weeks.”
During the 2022/23 season, Curti returned to the United States, icing for Toledo Walleye - notching 25 total points in 39 games, helping the Ohio-based side reach the ECHL playoffs.
Commenting on joining the Giants, Charlie Curti said: "I'm incredibly pleased to have signed with the Belfast Giants for 2023/24. There's no doubt that the club achieved something special last season and I'm really looking forward to playing my part to help build on that this year. When the opportunity arose to join the Giants, I jumped at the chance to test myself - both in the Elite League and Champions Hockey League, and I'm excited to get to Belfast, meet the rest of the roster and coaching staff, and get going."
