Giants End Regular Season With Victory Over Steelers
The Stena Line Belfast Giants rounded off their 2023/24 regular season with an emphathic victory over the Sheffield Steelers, as goals from Greg Printz, Will Cullen, Daniel Tedesco, and Mark Cooper secured a 4-1 win for Adam Keefe’s team in front of a capacity crowd at The SSE Arena, Belfast.
FIRST PERIOD
After an intense start to the game from both sides, it was the visitors that had the first opportunity to go ahead after the Giants conceded a penalty shot in the opening 90 seconds. Tyler Beskorowany stood firm between the pipes, batting aside Mikko Juusola’s early effort.
It was the Giants that maintained momentum, with a flurry of efforts from Daniel Tedesco and Sean Norris testing the reactions of Matt Greenfield, but the Steelers’ netminder was equal to the task, making a number of fine saves to keep the scores level.
Beskorowany and Greenfield continued to steal the show for the remainder of the first period, trading several impressive saves. David Goodwin and Will Cullen came closest to putting the hosts ahead, but Greenfield made sure that the Giants didn’t go into the first break with a goal advantage.
SECOND PERIOD
Both sides continued to cancel each other out in the early goings, with an end-to-end start seeing both sides create chances.
But it was still Beskorowany and Greenfield’s game, with the two netminders making sure the stalemate remained. Good opportunities for Daniel Ciampini and Mikko Juusola forced Beskorowany to make some crucial saves, with his counterpart denying Ben Lake and Mark Cooper’s efforts on goal.
THIRD PERIOD
As the final period of the regular season got underway, it was Adam Keefe’s side that had the first look on goal as Travis Brown drove a shot on target, but it whistled just wide of Greenfield’s net.
After Zach Vinnell saw his effort saved by Beskorowany, it was the Steelers that took the lead, with Scott Allen slotting home the rebound to put the Steelers one up. (0-1)
The Giants didn’t find themselves behind for long when Greg Printz fired the puck past Greenfield to register his 14th goal of the season to level the scores. (1-1)
After being tripped by Colton Saucerman, Will Cullen dispatched a penalty shot to give the Giants their first lead of the night with less than 10-minutes remaining on the clock. (2-1)
Following a series of strong saves from Beskorowany, the scoreline got even better for the Giants as David Goodwin’s pinpoint pass found Daniel Tedesco, who buried a shot past Greenfield. (3-1)
The Giants weren’t done there, as Mark Cooper’s empty-netter sealed an emphatic win for the home side. (4-1)
Next up, the Stena Line Belfast Giants move on to the Elite League playoff quarter-final, with the home leg set to take place at The SSE Arena, Belfast on Saturday 13 April. Tickets are available to purchase here.
