Mack is Back for 2023/24 Season
The Stena Line Belfast Giants are pleased to announce the return of 19-year-old Mack Stewart, on a two-way contract with National Ice Hockey League (NIHL) side Milton Keynes Lightning, for the 2023/24 season.
Son of legendary Giants defenceman and current assistant coach Rob Stewart, Belfast-born Mack Stewart will link up with Milton Keynes Lightning prior to the start of the 2023/24 NIHL season. Having represented the Junior Belfast Giants at U16 and U20 levels between 2016 and 2020, Stewart has made appearances for both Leeds Knights and Solway Sharks, as well as Danish side Vojens’ U17 side. Stewart has also iced for Great Britain’s U18 and U20 teams, scoring an impressive 14 points in 10 games.
Commenting on the upcoming 2023/24 season, Mack Stewart said: “I’m thankful for the opportunity to continue my development with both the Belfast Giants and Milton Keynes Lightning over the coming season. The ability to sign a two-way contract provides a great pathway for me to learn and gain experience at two fantastic clubs, as well as learn from a range of coaches and players who have achieved some remarkable things in the game.”
Stewart featured for the Giants during the club’s treble-winning 2022/23 season, playing 26 games across the Elite League, Challenge Cup, and Champions League. The up-and-coming forward was also named in the Belfast Giants All Stars that took on Ukrainian National Championship side Dnipro Kherson in a charity game at The SSE Arena, Belfast in April 2023.
Adam Keefe, head coach of the Belfast Giants, said: “We’re very happy to get Mack back on a two-way deal with Milton Keynes. We have seen Mack grow as a player and a person over the last two years spent between the two clubs. Mack has played a vital part in providing us with the depth in the last two championship seasons. He has a strong work ethic and isn’t afraid of the moment when he gets stuck in. He will live and train full-time in Milton Keynes this season, which should be another good step in his pro career, with him ready to return to Belfast when a spot on the roster opens up.”
