Oliver Cooper Added to Giants' Offensive Lineup
The Stena Line Belfast Giants are pleased to announce the newest addition to their 2023/24 season roster as Canadian centreman, Oliver Cooper.
Cooper is set to hit the ice in Belfast off the back of three seasons with ECHL side, Fort Wayne Komets where he notched up 39 goals and 49 assists, good for 88 points in 127 games across all three seasons and added silverware to his accolades in 2020/21 as the side became ECHL Kelly Cup Champions.
Belfast Giants’ head coach, Adam Keefe said: "Oliver Cooper is a big power forward who plays the game the right way. He goes to the net and has a very good finish in tight.
“He’s been a very good leader for his teams and his teammates love him. We are very excited to add a bit more grit to our lineup here in Belfast with Oliver.”
Last season with the Fort Wayne Komets, Cooper iced on loan for eight games with American Hockey League (AHL) side Chicago Wolves; the former affiliate club of National Hockey League’s (NHL) Carolina Hurricanes and five-time Calder Cup champions.
Speaking of the season ahead with the Belfast Giants, Oliver Cooper said: “I’ve done my research, and I'm blown away already by the Giants and the setup there. Heading to a winning team, I’m excited to have the chance to win some games and ultimately, trophies.
“The amazing thing about hockey is the chance to travel and experience different leagues, cultures, cities, but I have to say, having played in Canada and America for my whole career so far - Belfast is my most exciting opportunity yet. Roll on August!”
Further signings are expected to be announced in the coming weeks - keep an eye on Belfast Giants’ website and social media channels for the latest news and signing announcements.
Belfast Giants 2023/24 pre-season home fixtures have been confirmed to take place on Friday 25th August at 7pm vs Cardiff Devils, and Saturday 16th September at 7pm vs Glasgow Clan. Tickets are available for purchase here.
