Belfast Giants Assistant Coach Jeff Mason was born in Massachusetts, but for over a decade now he has been Belfast through and through.
The retired Defenceman first joined the Belfast Giants in 2010 under then-Coach Doug Christiansen and save for a brief stint in Norway back in 2012, spent 8 seasons patrolling the blue line in Teal.
Known for his fast feet, proficiency on special teams, defensive IQ when facing the breakaway, and a mean slapshot from the point; ‘Mase’ clinched two EIHL League Championships and a Challenge Cup in Teal before the curtain came down on his playing career in 2018.
He entered his second full season as Adam Keefe’s Assistant in 2021-22, bringing a wealth of experience and knowledge of winning Championships in the EIHL not only to the D-corps, but to the Belfast Giants as a whole.
Mason played NCAA D1 hockey at Providence College, Captaining the team in his senior year of 2004-05 and earning a spot on the Hockey East All Academic Team. From there he progressed into the ECHL where he would gain 294 games worth of experience ahead of his eventual move to Belfast.
Mason, who notched over 400 games for the Giants as a player between 2010 and 2018, spent three seasons behind the bench as Assistant Coach, before pursuing a new challenge as Head Coach of the Dundee Stars for the 2022/23 season. Last season, the 42-year-old Massachusetts native returned to Belfast, taking up the role of Associate Coach for the 2023/24 season.
